Carers FIRST supports carers

Carers FIRST supports all carers, regardless of the condition of their cared-for.  This includes:

·      Social/communication disorders such as autistic spectrum disorder and asperger syndrome

·        Neurological disorders, such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease

·        Physical conditions such as sensory impairment, head injury, cancer, diabetes and heart disease

·        Learning disabilities such as Downe Syndrome, Fragile X, and Global Learning Disabilities

·        Functional mental health disorders such as eating disorders, substance misuse, clinical depression, bi-polar disorder and personality disorder

  •   Organic mental health disorders such as alzheimer’s, stroke and dementia
Neurological Disorders Physical Conditions

Neurological disorders are a group of disorders that involve any part of the nervous system. They include: All structural disorders of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).

  • All structural disorders of the nerves in the face, trunk and limbs (peripheral nervous system ).
  • Disorders involving muscle.
  • Certain common conditions, which are not necessarily caused by structural disease such as many varieties of headache.

Orthopaedic Disorders

This is a range of disorders involving the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system consists of the bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. Examples of orthopaedic disorders include arthritis, fractures, osteoporosis and back pain.
