Carers First has a single point of access for carers and anyone who wants to find out more about us and the services we offer. Carers First provides a dedicated telephone support service for carers and anyone who wants to find out more about us and the services we offer. Someone is available to take your call Monday to Thursday 9am - 5pm and Fridays 9am - 4:30pm.
If you are a carer who is new to our service, whether you have been referred by another organisation, friend or family member, or if you have just called yourself, you will come through to a member of our experienced Helpline team who will take some details about you and your caring role as well as some information about the person you care for. This is so we can offer the right support and ensure we are providing the right services.
You will only need to do this once. They will talk through your caring situation and offer information and advice and provide a welcome pack with details about services which may help you. If they feel you need more specialist support they will book you into one of the surgeries our teams in the community run, so that you can have more in depth support.
The Helpline team have a wealth of knowledge and skills and come from a variety of working backgrounds including social work, mental health, careers, education and counselling.
Many of the team are, or have been carers themselves so have lived experiences and an understanding of the issues and challenges a carer may face.
Our Helpline team also currently run a “virtual drop-in” every Wednesday 6-8pm for carers who find it difficult to access support during the day.
