Adult Carers - Kent
It is estimated there are over 155,000 people in Kent providing care for a relative or friend, the contribution to the UK economy being worth around a staggering £3 billion (Carers UK: valuing carers 2015)
There are 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK with three in five of us becoming a carer at some point in our lives.
For many, caring is a rewarding and positive experience, but for others, without the right help and support caring can feel overwhelming. For some, caring can trigger feelings of loneliness and frustration and many often find their physical and emotional health, work or finances affected. You don't have to wait until you are struggling to talk to someone about your caring role and the help you can get.
If you are aged 18+ and support a relative or friend with tasks such as washing and dressing, paying bills, transport, emotional support, health appointments, medication and domestic tasks then we can help you with your caring responsibilities.
How can we help?
When you are caring it can be easy to feel isolated, especially if your caring role means that it is difficult to get out and about often. Carers FIRST can to make things easier for you by:
- Providing tailored information and advice at a time suitable to you through our My Navigator tool on a wide range of topics such as benefits, practical support, legal issues and respite.
- Telephone befriending for carers who feel isolated whereby they receive a weekly or fortnightly call from a befriender who will provide a listening ear
- Access to our On-line Carers Forum giving carers and former carers the opportunities to talk to others who may be in a similar situation to themselves to give and receive peer support
- You can sign up to our regular e-bulletins which provides useful information about services in Kent and nationally which you and members of your family may find useful.
