Carers First is excited to announce we are partnering with The David Lawrence Windrush Experience, uniting family and friends to celebrate a culturally rich heritage and community this summer.

Medway carers are invited to join us in honouring the Windrush generation at our special fundraising event, enjoying a selection of delicious traditional dishes, including Caribbean cuisine, dancing and lively music from our DJ, as well as the chance to hear from our wonderful guest speakers. If  you enjoy good food, company and taking a trip down memory lane, this is the perfect event for you!

Tickets cost £35 per person, including: 2 x talks on the Windrush + Dinner and Dance. There is a 15% discount - £29.75 per person for carers receiving support from Carers First Medway within the last two months.

With every penny going towards carers, not only will this lively event benefit you, but your participation will also improve the lives of other carers, ensuring that we can continue to offer more opportunities like this.

This event aims to commemorate and recognise the bravery and sacrifices made by the Windrush generation.

Medway Adult and Brokerage Team Lead, Syreeta Gibson, is running the event and expresses how she feels the celebration will both educate and inspire carers:

“I’m excited about this event, it's one of the biggest fundraising awareness events I have adventured on with Carers First. I feel proud to educate not just carers but everyone who attends, about the Windrush generation. So many people still don’t know the full story about those who emigrated from the Caribbean to Britain on the HMT Empire Windrush in June 1948.”

“Our carers are in for a powerful and immersive experience. As soon as they step into the Marquee, they’ll be transported back in time. They will hear David Lawrence deliver thought-provoking talks, taste authentic Caribbean food, listen to music from that era and much more.”

The all-day event takes place on Saturday, 12 July from 12pm – 10pm at Riverview Manor, Wouldham Road, Rochester, Kent ME1 3TL. Dress to impress, the dress code is colourful and comfortable! We look forward to seeing you there!
