Thank you for making our Christmas!
We caught up with Peter who starred in our Christmas Appeal film to find out how your support helped him this Christmas. Peter cares for his wife Olive who has dementia. They were facing up to a Christmas without their children and grandchildren and Peter was desperate to make it special for Olive as he doesn’t know how many more she might remember.
"Christmas day was very nice. Our daughter continued a family tradition and supplied us with a stocking each filled with little presents, so we opened those in the morning. Then our dear friend Debbie came over for dinner at 1pm. This year was the first year that I have served dinner almost on time, just five minutes shy. Debbie is part of our support bubble and we enjoy her company."
Debbie helps Peter look after Olive through a ‘sitting service’ paid for by the council. Peter says he would never have known he could get this support if it wasn't for Carers First. He would also have never met Debbie (they met at a Carers First Support Group).
When asked what Peter is most looking forward to in 2021 he said, "being together and having each other." "and good health" Olive says adamantly. "We like our holidays in the UK, so if this lockdown ends, we’d like to get that normality back. "You can read more stories like Peter’s in our new monthly Staying Connected newsletter.
