Young Carers Action Day is an annual awareness day for young and young adult carers. This year's theme is "Fair Futures for Young Carers". The day calls for action to ensure young carers have the same opportunities to learn, grow and thrive as their peers, with the right recognition, support and chances to reach their potential.
A Story for Young Carers project was created by Amazing Minds and Carers First to raise awareness of the experiences faced by young carers aged 7–12. The project aims to help children recognise when they might need support and know where to find it.
Through the story of a small robot whose battery slowly runs down as it juggles school and caring responsibilities, the film captures what it can feel like to be a young carer, balancing everyday life while supporting someone you love.
The film was inspired by workshops with young carers aged 7–12 in Medway.
To help identify and support young carers, we have put together an information and resource pack, specifically for schools. For teachers, teaching staff, school workers or parents, this pack can be used in school settings to provide information, advice and practical resources to help in raising awareness of young carers as well as tips on how you can support them.
Watch our Young Carers film, following Michael, Abbi and Teri who are all young carers, supporting loved ones in their families. 1 in 3 young carers struggle emotionally due to the stress of their caring roles.
