Carers First have 8  places available for young adult carers aged 16 to 25 years who live in Essex, Southend-on-Sea, Medway, Lincolnshire and London areas who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder or (ADHD) as well as any other Neuro-diverse conditions.

Dates and times for this course are yet to be confirmed, however we are asking young adult carers to express your interest in attending, letting us know your preference for the dates and times you can attend, for us to plan our delivery of this course.

The training programme, which is delivered online, will seek to enhance understanding, and educate each young carer around their ADHD/ADD, empower them to advocate for themselves effectively, and most importantly celebrate their unique strengths. In addition to this, a session and support group will be set up for the parents.

Nikki Brooker - Young Carer and Young Adult Carer Team Lead who is overseeing the programme says:

"This course is designed to boost confidence and self-esteem and help young carers that participate, to learn to celebrate and love their labels."

The training programme is delivered from the perspective of a qualified ADHD Coach and does much more than simply provide a list of standard strategies and learning.

The sessions will seek to shine a light of positivity around ADHD / ADD so that the child attending will feel celebrated,

and together the group will work together to define some practical skills and strategies to support each Young Adult Carer:

Over the course of the four sessions, the programme will cover:

1. What is ADHD/ ADD

We'll look at what that means for the brain, and how that sometimes impacts us

2. Why ADHD is a superpower

We'll explore how we find our magic bullet and how we can tap into your strengths

3. Feelings and Sensations

Where they come from, how to identify where we hold them in our bodies, and what do they tell us

4. Creating our toolkit

We'll look at what the ADHD experts recommend, and share knowledge as a group. Please only complete this expression of interest if you can commit to all the sessions outlined above.
