Hitesh tells us how he "achieves more by doing less, to create a more balanced lifestyle" in his caring role whilst looking after his mum. Hitesh has laid out his top tips for selfcare below.

1. Prioritise Selfcare

I do things differently from other carers to achieve the results I desire. In the system I have created there is an emotional welfare section, which consists of morning and evening routines, communication, meditation, keeping the mind active, book reading and day trips.

Tip: In the morning before eating breakfast. I put a slice of lemon into a cup of hot water with freshly grated ginger, and honey.

I then do some HIIT exercise or breathing exercises. For fun, I created a YouTube video of mum and me exercising to inspire other carers. My mum really enjoys it when I show her how many people viewed the video.

2. Seek Respite Time

What do you do sometime throughout the day to recharge those batteries? I lie down with the blinds closed, the lights turned off and play meditation music for 15 minutes.

3. Delegate Responsibilities

Do you feel overwhelmed most days?

Even I know that the greatest jugglers need a helping hand. Pick one task to delegate this week and feel the weight magically lift off your shoulders. I created a delegation matrix that I use to help me with this very task.

Tip: This one is important, do not stress over what you cannot control, focus your energy on what you can control and learn to let go.

4. Connect with other carers

Think about how you can connect with other carers. You'll be part of a club through online webinars where others do not judge and get you and your story without you saying a thing. It's a place where you can swap events, share tips, and laugh about the absurdities of caregiving.
