Carers First is delighted to announce the appointment of Kelly Rust as its new Chief Executive, marking an exciting new chapter for the charity as it continues to strengthen support for unpaid carers across the communities it serves.

Kelly brings extensive leadership experience from the third sector and a strong commitment to improving the lives of unpaid carers. Her values and experience align closely with Carers First’s mission to ensure carers are recognised, valued and supported, and she will lead the organisation as it continues to grow its reach and impact.

Kelly succeeds Alison Taylor, who is stepping down after six years as Chief Executive. During her tenure, Alison has guided the charity through a period of significant growth, strengthening services and ensuring that more unpaid carers can access high-quality, compassionate support.

Vicki Wells, Interim Chair of Carers First, said:

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Kelly Rust as our new Chief Executive. Kelly brings a wealth of experience, deep commitment to unpaid carers, and strong leadership from the third sector, that aligns perfectly with the charity’s objectives.

We are immensely grateful to Alison Taylor for her dedicated service and leadership over the past six years. Alison has guided the charity through significant growth, strengthened our services, and ensured that unpaid carers across our communities have received the compassionate, high-quality support they deserve, leaving us with a robust foundation to build upon.

We are confident that under Kelly’s guidance, we will continue to grow our impact, innovate our services, and provide the essential, personalised support that carers across our communities deserve and rely on. This is an exciting new chapter for Carers First, and we look forward to Kelly leading us forward with energy and commitment.”

Kelly Rust said:

“I’m delighted to be joining Carers First as CEO. I’ve been so impressed by the impact of the charity and the difference it makes for carers. Building on the strong foundation created under Alison’s leadership, I’m excited about the opportunity to grow our reach and raise the profile of carers so their voices, experiences and contributions are further recognised and supported.”

As Carers First looks ahead, the charity remains focused on working with carers, partners and communities to deliver responsive, high-quality support that helps unpaid carers maintain their wellbeing and continue in their vital roles.
