Carers First is really pleased to announce a collaboration with Amazing Minds - an organisation centred around changing the lives of young people.
Young Carers in Medway recently attended a workshop where they had the unique opportunity to interact with Jo, the founder of Amazing Minds, and Aslan their lovely therapy dog!
The wellbeing sessions and creative workshops centre around practicing mindfulness techniques with the young carers, in a relaxed and comfortable setting where they can feel free to share their feelings and thoughts, knowing they’ll be heard and understood. Dogs are known to be incredible in supporting children and young people with their emotional and mental wellbeing, often improving self-esteem, communication skills and supporting emotional regulation. Aslan the therapy dog helped the young carers to feel reassured and comfortable at our latest session!
Jo Price, founder of Amazing Minds, shares how the partnership will benefit and inspire young carers:
“We’re thrilled to have secured funding through the Kent & Medway Suicide Prevention Programme – ‘Hope’ to launch a creative digital media project with amazing young carers.
The project, ‘Caring Hearts and Amazing Minds’, blends mindfulness and artistic creativity by working with a digital media vibe to create an amazing fun and child friendly animation. We're running some fun wellbeing sessions with Aslan, our super cool Amazing Minds dog, followed by some creative workshops where young carers are being part of the design brief to assist with us creating and designing a fun animation to raise awareness of their role and promote support from the Medway based charity, Carers First.
Our goal is to share the finished animation through schools and social media, encouraging other young carers to come forward and access the help they deserve. It’s all about connection, communication, and community - key ingredients for positive mental health.”
We are extremely excited and hopeful that this new project will be the start of something wonderful for young carers across Medway.
