Carers in West Essex who need financial assistance to help pay for essential items and bills to help with the cost of caring for someone who has returned home from hospital may be eligible to receive up to £250.
Carers can apply for grant support for food, bedding, household appliances, equipment or utility bills to help them to remain safe and well when caring at home.
Carers First is able to offer these small grants thanks to funding from NHS East of England to support carers with needs identified after hospital discharge from Princess Alexandra Hospital since June 2022.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- be in need of financial assistance to pay for a essential item or bill
- care for someone who lives in West Essex who has been discharged from Princess Alexandra Hospital since 1 June 2022
- be registered or register with Carers First
Aiming to support carers who may be struggling financially to remain safe and well when caring at home, carers can apply for grant support for a number of reasons.
It may be that you are doing an increased amount of washing due to incontinence and your electricity bill has increased, or your washing machine or tumble dryer has broken down.
It may be that you've had to shop locally which has cost you more, or that you need to pay for a repair for the car to help get you and the person you care for out and about or to appointments. Whatever your situation may be, you can contact us to find out if we can help you.
One carer, Sarah, who commented on the grant support she has previously received from Carers First said:
“Carers First helped me with my finances with a grant towards my energy bills. I wouldn’t have been able to afford it otherwise"
To apply, click below to email us telling us why you think a grant would help you in your caring role. There are limited funds available, so be quick to apply if you think we can help you or someone you know.
*Only 1 carer per patient discharged from Princess Alexandra Hospital can make a claim for this support. Financial support cannot be used towards the cost of respite care.
