Croydon Council have launched a new campaign in collaboration with Carers First, “Caring is Personal”, encouraging unpaid carers to call the Carers First helpline and speak to someone who can help.
Toby Lee-Manning, Carers First Head of London and South East, said: “The right support can make things easier for you and the person you care for. That might be practical advice, wellbeing support, or help to navigate the system.
“When you call our helpline, there are no forms, and no being passed around. Just one call and you’ll be in touch with a real person who understands and knows what’s out there.
“We’re here to help with tailored support, so give us a call to find out how we can help you. We won’t tell you what to do. But we can help you keep doing what you are doing, with knowledge of what support is available to you.”
Carers First has been working directly with, and for carers for more than 30 years, providing personalised information and tailored support. They are helping carers find balance and live their lives to the fullest - today, and for years to come.
Teresa cares for her older sister Julie, who lives with learning difficulties, including mental and physical challenges. She learnt about the support Carers First can offer through other carers in her community.
She said: "As soon as I made that first phone call four years ago, everyone I’ve spoken to has been so kind, they’ve always had time for me.
“I can't tell you how much Carers First has lifted me up. If only more organisations were like Carers First. I recommend you all the time, I can't recommend you enough!”
In Croydon and Merton, Carers First are the lead organisation for unpaid carers seeking support. The Carers First Helpline is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am to 4:30pm on Fridays.
