Broadcaster and journalist, Kate Garraway, a notable and emerging voice for carers, has advocated her continued support for carers following the death of her husband, Derek Draper.
Talking on Good Morning Britain this week, Kate said supporting carers “will be my cause forever” and highlighted the need for further support for carers, saying “We need to have a different system of support for caring.”
Kate, who has publicly shared her personal experience of being a carer and helped raise the profile of caring, recently spoke about our Carers Week Survey on Loose Women; highlighting how nearly half of unpaid carers who completed the survey don't feel supported for what they do.
With the National Carers Week report stating that there are 10.6 million people providing unpaid care in the UK, it’s vital that the conversation continues around the lack of support for carers.
Carers First provides personalised information and practical support for carers and former carers; Providing support for former carers through our Life After Caring workshops which focus on life after caring, covering areas such as finding your new normal, managing your mood, and generally rebuilding your life after caring.
