New benefits advice service for carers in Essex aged 65+
Carers First are delighted to increase our support to older carers in Essex through a new benefits advice service. This means that throughout 2023, we can help more older carers to get more money into their pockets during the cost-of-living crisis.
The new benefits advice service has been made possible thanks to a grant from Independent Age to help older carers aged 65+ in Essex with the cost of living.
One carer who commented on the support she has previously received from Carers First said:
“We were already receiving Disability Living Allowance for my son, but due to the support I received from Carers First my son is now receiving the higher rate of the benefit, which is very much needed and has been a great help.”
Carers can access a 1:1 session by phone with a benefits adviser who will work with you to help you to maximise your household income, review or access eligible benefits, to or to simply get some extra money in your pocket. We are also able to offer a face to face service if this is preferred.
We would like to thank Independent Age and the Pension Insurance Corporation for their funding, which will help us to support more older carers in the Essex carers community this winter and throughout 2023. To find out more on Independent Age, visit independentage.org or follow them @IndependentAge on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
To support this project we are looking to recruit volunteers to help carers with filling in benefit forms. No previous experience is needed, and training will be provided. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us by visiting our volunteering page.
