Carers Week 2025 was a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital role of unpaid carers across the country – and Carers First marked the occasion with a packed schedule of events, activities, and awareness-raising efforts across all our regions.
From a historical walk around Bethlem Hospital in Croydon, exploring the roots of mental health care, to a traditional cream tea in Merton and creative jewellery making in Lincolnshire, carers had the chance to connect, unwind and be celebrated.
We concluded the week with a standout event in Medway, bringing together carers, local providers, and civic leaders, including the Worshipful Mayor of Medway, Trevor Clarke. Centred on this year’s theme – Caring About Equality – the event provided a powerful platform for organisations and services to share the support available to carers in the area. Hearing personal stories from carers like Dawn and Keith was a moving reminder of the importance of equity and recognition within the caring community.
We were proud to be joined by Councillor Teresa Murray, Sylvia Griffin, Kulbir Pasricha from Kent Police, and Carers First leaders Alison Taylor (Chief Executive), Naresh Katnoria (Service Manager) and Syreeta Gibson. Their contributions helped make the event truly memorable.
A heartfelt thank you goes to all the local organisations who supported the week – including Medway Foodbank, Medway Parents and Carers Forum, Kyndi Technology, Utility Warehouse, Insightful Minds, and Bright Shadow.
Our media activity throughout the week helped shine a spotlight on unpaid carers, with team members appearing on BBC Radio Essex, KMTV, and other local outlets to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and the support Carers First offers.
Online, our expert-led sessions were a huge success – with Ellen, Sheena, Malina, and other colleagues delivering insightful workshops on topics such as hospital discharge, working while caring, young carers, and the experience of being an older carer. These sessions provided a valuable space for learning, sharing, and connection.
