As we reflect on the work we do in Lincolnshire, we would like to focus on a project that has had a lasting impact – The Men DO project in East Lincolnshire.
The members of the Men DO project embarked on adventures that brought smiles, shared experiences, and unexpected friendships. Uniting male carers over 50, these gatherings brought together individuals from varied walks of life, each with their unique tales of care and resilience.
Their journey took them through the stunning landscapes of The Wolds Animal Park, near Horncastle, and aboard the scenic Boston Belle Waterways Cruise. There was laughter and lively banter, shared stories, and a collective sense of being a part of something special. There were moments of quiet reflection, too, amid the beauty of nature.
But it wasn't just the destinations that stood out; it was the sentiment echoed by a participant: "I have felt included, listened to, and welcomed into this group and found new friends which I didn’t expect.” This affirmation reflects our mission perfectly: to create a supportive space where carers feel seen, heard, and valued.
Thank you to The Freemasons Charity for their generosity in funding the Men DO Project, and allowing these great events to come to fruition. It is these experiences that bring to life our ethos at Carers First: being there for each other, celebrating the spirit of care, and above all, acknowledging that every carer's journey is worthy of recognition and support.
To every male carer out there, remember that your role is invaluable, and so are you. We understand the unique challenges you face and we are here to support you.
Our Men Do programme tackles social isolation and loneliness amongst males aged 50+ living in East Lincolnshire. As part of this project, eligible males can take part in a range of events and activities from wood whittling, falconry and foot golf. To find out more click here
This project is possible thanks to grant funding from the Freemasons' charity.
